Norman Allison FCCA

Norman has recently rejoined Mercia after an absence of 12 years. During this time he was at H&R Block Inc for nearly 10 years dealing with the tax affairs of a wide range of clients and managing a national project with Barclays Bank as well as presenting throughout Eastern Europe. In the last two years he was a Senior Tax Manager at Target in the heart of the City of London dealing with the tax affairs for a number of High Net Worth clients.

Jeremy Williams FCA

Jeremy joined Mercia in 2000 as an audit lecturer, having qualified with KPMG in Leicester. As well as lecturing on a wide variety of audit and accounting topics, Jeremy is responsible for FSA-related products as well as providing technical support and peer review services.

Raj Rajput BA (Hons), DipM

Raj joined Mercia after a varied career in sales, marketing and public relations for organisations including British Gas, Coca-Cola and more recently managing supply chain accounts for Jaguar, Ford, General Motors and Nissan. Supports the business in marketing and business development projects as well as the Social Media plans and advising clients on the best approach with their website and marketing needs.

Andrew Güntert MSc, FCA

Andrew specialises in auditing, financial reporting and associated areas and has been delivering CPD lectures for some years. He was with ATC before joining Mercia. He has a strong interest in technical issues, writing regularly for the specialist press and is an active member of the ICAEW’s Audit and Assurance faculty serving on several committees including the Technical and Practical Auditing Committee.

Nicola Hurley

Nicola is the director with overall responsibility for our range of marketing support products and services for clients and the marketing function of our own business. Nicola joined Mercia in 1995 to offer design and marketing support to both Mercia and our clients. She is supported by the marketing support, design and marketing teams and is responsible for producing all printed material and HTML products. She also provides marketing consultancy for clients.

Mike Rees MBCS, CITP

Mike worked at Deloitte & Touche as an IT consultant before joining Mercia more than 15 years ago. At Mercia Mike divides his time between providing IT training and support to accountancy practices and also advising them of the IT systems they need in place to take advantage of the technological age.

Mark Morton BA, CA, ATT

Mark joined HMRC in 1989 and undertook their full training exams. In 1996 he was made Deputy District Inspector for the Derby area and had detailed experience of all types of Revenue enquiries. Mark joined Mercia as an experienced lecturer and now provides a wide variety of CPD training around the country. He is also a well known contributor to professional publications and provides technical consultancy to the accountancy profession.

Emily Bailey BSc, CTA, ATT, CA

After graduation from the University of Birmingham, Emily spent nine years in the Corporate Tax department at KPMG mainly auditing tax for large PLCs. Emily joined Mercia in 2010 as Training Events Manager and is responsible for the management and development of a number of training groups and courses. Her role involves visiting client meetings to discuss training requirements and she regularly attends courses.

Nilesh Parmar HND

Nilesh is part of the Graphic design team working on our marketing support products for our clients. He regularly contributes to the social media artwork and design inputs and given he has a strong interest in technology particularly Apple products he likes to keep up to date with all the latest developments. This also shown in his spare time activity as a DJ and record producer ensuring his creative skills are used to the full potential.

David Smith FCCA

David works as part of Mercia’s technical team lecturing on a range of audit and accounts courses. He is a member of Mercia’s Audit Manual Committee and is responsible for the Academies Specialist Assignment Manual. Prior to joining Mercia in May 2010, David spent two years at Dexter & Sharpe in Lincolnshire and eight at Grant Thornton where he managed a varied portfolio of audit and accounts clients and delivered training at GT’s national training centre.

John Sharkey BSc (Hons) ACA

John joined Mercia in 1998 having previously been the managing director of Brains, a small training consortium in Buckinghamshire. He is currently responsible for the management of a number of training groups but is perhaps better known as a presenter on the management development courses.

Andrew Burgess BSc (Hons) ACA

He joined Mercia in 2003 and has quickly become well respected as a tax lecturer. As well as contributing to regular tax updates, Andrew brings his particular expertise to bear on personal tax issues, capital taxes, investigations, employment tax and charities.

Phil Williams BA FCA CTA

Phil is a senior tax consultant within the Mercia team. Since qualifying Phil has spent most of his time in tax but has also been involved in many other areas. He is a popular speaker on Mercia CPD courses and a regular contributor to the Mercia tax consultancy service where his extensive knowledge and experience is well recognised.
